The residents of Pomona now have a new spot to satisfy their cravings for Mediterranean food with the grand opening of the Pomona Bakery this past Saturday. The bakery has been in the works for the past year and specializes in a variety of flatbreads made with organic ingredients and special cheeses.

Waseem Ghalayeeni, co-owner of the bakery along with Hani Bouidani, expressed his excitement for the grand opening.

“We have a lot of different kinds of flatbread, including egg and cheese, vegetarian, and sojouk, which has ground beef, onions, and parsley,” Ghalayeeni said.

The bakery has plenty of tables where customers can choose to dine-in or takeout.

The Pomona Bakery is located on a busy street in Pomona, next to a Superior Grocers and a Michoacana ice cream shop.

“This is a Mediterranean food bakery, and I would look for more people to come and try our unique and tasty food,” Ghalayeeni said.

Their menu contains many different options like lahm bageen, a ground beef pizza-like flatbread with ground beef, tomato and onions. Pomona Bakery also offers vegetarian options like falafel, a deep-fried ground ball of chickpea; muhammara, a red pepper, red jalapeno and garlic paste with pomegranate juice and walnuts; and baba ghanoug, an eggplant-based dish with tomato and onions.

The Pomona Bakery is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day and is located at 3168 N. Garey Ave. in Pomona, in Foothill Square. With its delicious flatbreads, plates, and sandwiches, the bakery is sure to become a staple in the community.
