A Pomona warehouse party last Friday, attended by University of La Verne students, turned deadly when shots were fired, leaving five wounded and one dead.
The person who died was 19-year-old Christian Anthony Ramirez, a Los Angeles resident.
One of the wounded was a male University of La Verne student, according to Campus Safety Director Ruben Ibarra. Ibarra would not reveal the injured student’s name for privacy concerns.
The injured La Verne student was treated and released from the hospital a few hours later.
Shortly after 10:30 p.m. on Sept. 22, multiple calls were made to the Pomona Police Department, and paramedics from Los Angeles County Fire arrived on scene to transport the victims to a local hospital following the shooting.
The reporting officer was Sgt. Edgard Padilla of the Pomona Police Department.
The doors to the warehouse at 1544 E. First St. had opened at 8:30 p.m. Friday. Roughly 150 people attended the party, which also included students from Cal Poly Pomona and Mt. San Antonio College, according to reports.
The case is still under investigation.
“Detectives … are interviewing witnesses and victims, and obtaining video from the surrounding businesses for as much information as possible,” Pomona Police Department Spokeswoman Aly Mejia said.

“It certainly saddens our community because people were hurt,” Ibarra said. “This is definitely one of those incidents that teaches (the community) about being more vigilant. If you see something, let us know.”
The University community was alerted to the shooting Saturday, and students received a follow-up statement from President Pardis Mahdavi on Monday through email.
