The Ludwick Center hosted an open house on Monday to showcase all the resources it offers, including the office it houses.
The Center for Multicultural Services offers free printing, and refreshments including coffee, tea and hot chocolate.
“We want to create a space that allows people to learn about themselves and their totality…where people feel comfortable, and they embrace as their own,” said Daniel Loera, director of multicultural affairs.
The Center for Multicultural Services created the Belongingness Series, a seven part series that encourages community building by starting conversations about identity, equity, diversity and inclusion.
The first session will be “Communication Continuum and Multiple Identity/Intersectionality” from 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday in the Quay Davis Executive Board Room.
The Office of Civic Community Engagement offers co-curricular community engagement activities and provides leadership opportunities that focus on the University’s core values of ethical reasoning, civic and community engagement, diversity and inclusivity and lifelong learning.
The Office of Civic Community Engagement and the Andrew Goodman Foundation Civic Engagement Ambassadors are hosting a Puppies to the Polls event that allows community members to register to vote while petting puppies in the University Quad from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
The Office of International Services and Engagement, which helps the University’s international students adjust to life in La Verne through events and orientations, is also housed in Ludwick.
“As I started working I became more part of everything else within the building because of its diversity and every one part of it felt like a family,” Garrett Gonzales, a freshman criminology major, who works in the Office of International Services and Engagement said. “Working together became a fun way to engage with other people within the campus.”
The Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is on the second floor of Ludwick, and is dedicated to supporting students from all backgrounds and creating programs to promote equality, inclusion and community.
The Office of Religious and Spiritual Life, embraces all religions and cultures and offers various programs like student and organization clubs, Interfaith Fellows Program, Summer Service and Spiritual Well-Being support. The Office has couches, snacks, coffee and more.
“There are all these cultural and religious aspects, so I hope people can feel the excitement around all these cultural and religious observances,” University Chaplain Zandra Wagoner said.
The Ludwick Center offices are open from 8 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
“The Ludwick Center is a place where everyone truly belongs and gets a sense (of) our core values,” Wagoner said. “Diversity, equality and inclusion are at the forefront of what all of us are doing in this building.”
