Car enthusiasts converge at the Fairplex

The engines roared Sunday morning at the Fairplex for the Pomona Swap Meet and Classic Car Show, where hundreds of people gathered to show off their customized cars, thrift for car parts and vibe out to some classic old-school funk.

“For the community, besides the fair, this show brings in more people seven times a month to the community with food, fuel, hotel rooms,” Fairplex event staff worker Gary Williams said. “People fly in from other countries, as well as come in from other states. So it’s a lot of outside money for a couple-day weekend.”

In the parking lot alongside the In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip, people lined up their cars, tents and all sorts of items to look through.

The event was divided into two halves, with the cars showcased on one side,  and independent vendors selling rims, headlights, tools, toy cars and more on the other.

In between were plenty of food and beer vendors.

Some people were there to view the cool cars, some shopped for specific parts, while others made a family outing of the event.

“I would say the family orientation is the best part,” Jesse Campos, local classic car owner, said. “You know, everyone coming out here having a good time with no issues and just seeing everybody’s creativity.”
