Track and field teams host record breaking event

The Leopards hosted their inaugural Leopard Distance Carnival on Friday with Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponents Cal Lutheran, Pomona-Pitzer, Caltech and other Division I opponents from around the country, such as Boston College. 

The Leopard Distance Carnival found many stadium and personal records being broken by participants, according to the University of La Verne Athletics Department.

ULV freshman Finn McClure recorded a 3:59.32 in the men’s 1500 meter run, earning himself a 10th place finish. 

University of Colorado Colorado Springs sophomore Molly Breuer beat a stadium record in the 3000 meter women’s steeplechase with a blazing 10:42.36, earning her first place honors in the event.

La Verne freshman Michael Benschop finished in the top 10 participants in four different events, his best event being the men’s javelin throw, throwing an impressive 35.73 meters and earning a fourth place finish.

The ULV men’s and women’s track and field teams will compete in their next meet April 27 and 28 at the SCIAC Track and Field Championships hosted by Pomona-Pitzer.

La Verne hosts SCIAC Championship

As the Leopards competed in their last events of the league season, the men’s and women’s track and field teams took part in the two-day Southern Conference Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship meet Saturday and Sunday at Ortmayer Stadium.

Track teams run to Redlands

The La Verne track and field teams competed in the Redlands Invitational on March 17 at Ted Runner Stadium.
