The University held an Academic Exploration Fair Tuesday in the Abraham Campus Center.
The Fair was designed for newer students who have yet to choose a major. Professors from the various programs and majors were on hand to share and answer questions.
“I (showed up) to learn as much as I can about the other departments on campus and see if I have any interest in changes,” sophomore kinesiology major Lucas Aguilera said.
About 100 students browsed the many booths that lined Barbara’s Place, the lobby and the lounge area in the Abraham Campus Center’s first floor.
“Departments want to give (students) an idea of what a major can do for them, what kinds of different majors can lead to different careers,” said Jonathan Reed, professor of religion. “It’s also a great opportunity to explore minors.”
Food for the event was provided by Raising Cane’s chicken fingers while they explored the different tables and listened to each major presentation.
“There was a lot of stuff that I didn’t know about that I know now,” said freshman business major Welsey Bragg.
Students showed up to the event in waves.
“I am sure of my major right now,” said sophomore biology major Yolanda Caceres.
She was there to check out potential minors.
Many of the booths gave out gifts, including rubber band bracelets, donut holes and candy.
