To honor Black History Month, the Black Student Union and the Campus Activities Board teamed up to host a barbecue Tuesday night on the Citrus Lawn.
Many students came out to enjoy the food and a sense of community.
Food, courtesy of SoCal BBQ & Catering, included brisket, potato salad and more.
There was line-dancing, a photo booth and red, yellow and black balloons, the colors of the pan-African flag.
“It was a great event and it really showed the diversity of La Verne,” said freshman Kayla Covington, who attended.
Black History Month began as a way to honor important people in the history of the African diaspora. Initially a week-long celebration, in 1970 it was expanded to last the full month of February.
