The La Verne swimming and diving teams competed in the four-day Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships last weekend at East Los Angeles College.
The men’s team finished with 103 points and the women’s team put up 96 points. Both finished last in the nine-team competition.
Junior diver Shaun Concepcion placed 16th in the men’s 1-meter dive and 15th in the 3-meter dive. He placed 12th on day three of the competition for the 3-meter dive.
A few men’s swimmers set personal bests during the 200 individual medley preliminary round – junior Dylan Sovine with 2:07, sophomore Josh Jauregul with 2:03 and junior Nico Eustaquio with 2:17.
Senior Demetre Figueroa in the 500 freestyle, junior Nathan West in the 50 freestyle, Jauregul during the 200 backstroke and sophomore Gabe Graceffa in the 100 freestyle also set personal bests.
Women’s swimmers were able to break some personal records of their own during the 50 freestyle preliminary competition – sophomore Neve Dagdagan with 26.16, senior Lindsey Habeggar with 26.26, freshman Jedida Alvarez with 27.0 and freshman Marisol Varela with 28.87.
More Leopards who were able to top their bests during preliminary rounds were freshman Kelly Long in the 500 freestyle, sophomore Keilani Greer in the 300 individual medley and Dagdagan in the 200 backstroke.
Greer was called back for finals on the last day of the competition, participating in the 200 butterfly as the 13th seed. She finished fifth.
