On Tuesday, the University of La Verne’s Campus Activities Board hosted the Sweet Summer Bash event. The event was set up to host over 50 students with nine tables set up on the lawn.
The event had what looked to be a red and orange bouncy slide, but as students moved in closer, it was revealed to be a bungee race. A bungee race consists of two racers tied to bungee cords at one end. The racers would then run towards the other side and place a velcro beanbag on the center of the jumper with the goal of trying to place their beanbag further than their opponents.
Students who wanted to participate in the bungee had to sign a waiver so the University of La Verne and CAB would not be liable for any injuries on the inflatable race track.There was also a CAB staffer that would monitor the bungee race to prevent injury.
Only two races were held within the first hour with one of the races containing members of CAB. This very well could be due to the sunny weather at the event after a heavily gloomy week in La Verne. Instead of racing, students craved a cold treat to defend against the warmer conditions.
CAB had these students covered with a Joe’s Italian Ice stand. To claim the Italian ice, students must check in at one of the booths.
There were about 15 to 20 students sitting at the tables for the majority of the event.
CAB also gave away free custom ULV duffle bags. The bags were all black bags with ULV printed in a black and white leopard font.
The event also had a loudspeaker playing some of the top radio hits right now, not only lighting up the event, but the music could be heard from the Abraham Campus Center and even as far as the Wilson Library.
“When I first started at La Verne, I attended the majority of the CAB events that fit in my schedule,” Evan Orozco, senior history major, said. “I have talked to a lot more people because of these events.”
