Claremont hosts mariachi concert

The Claremont Colleges’ Garrison Theater hosted a mariachi concert Tuesday, where performers included music faculty and students from the Claremont Colleges with musicians and ballet folklorico performers from across Southern California.

Before an audience of about 200, the first set of folklórico dancers were children with white folklórico gowns and red hair pieces.

The auditorium was dimly lit with warm lighting, while the stage shone with bright lights to perfectly see the performers.

The stage was also decorated with fiesta banners along the front of the stage and other decorations on the railing of the stairs onto the stage.

The audience got involved, clapping along with the beat of the instruments.

“My favorite part was definitely just getting to sing and be on stage with my peers,” said Belen Yudess, one of the performers.

Before the last number, seven student performers were recognized and honored with a sash, as this was their final performance for their senior year.
