The University of La Verne hosted its 27th annual Scholarship Gala event Saturday outdoors on third street between Founders Hall and the Ludwick center, beneath a tent to protect guests from the evening’s light rain.
The event raised over $77,000.
“The work we do … is tremendous for our students and community,” University of La Verne President Risa Dixon said. “Student success is community success.”
The 2024 Gala was canceled. The 2023 Gala raised nearly $2 million.
The roughly 200 guests to the formal event included current students and faculty, retired faculty, community members and some members of the University’s Board of Trustees.
The iconic Founders Hall stairway was decorated – perfect for photo ops, which guests took advantage of.
At around 6:30 p.m. the DJ called for everyone to start taking their seats for dinner, a bit early due to the dark clouds starting to form overhead.
Among the speakers at the event was Alumna Taylor Puno who talked about the importance of her own scholarship to the University.
“Scholarships gave me access,” Puno said.
Dinner came with three courses.
Tickets for this event were $400 a pop, with most of the funds going directly to the University’s scholarship program.
