The Associated Students of the University of La Verne, in collaboration with the Graduate and Adult Student Government, recognize significant concerns regarding the university’s calendar transition that warrant broader campus attention. We have observed a process that has moved forward without full consideration of its potential impacts on students, faculty, and staff. The absence of comprehensive dialogue and a thorough assessment of ramifications has contributed to growing uncertainty and concern within the University community.
For many years, student leadership has worked alongside university administrators to provide input and to support a transition guided by the principles of shared governance. Recent developments indicate a departure from this collaborative approach. Current actions do not align with previous discussions and have provided little opportunity for meaningful student engagement.
Given the new implementation timeline, ASULV and GASG emphasize the need for transparent, inclusive decision-making that considers the diverse needs of all students while balancing academic, professional, and personal commitments.
ASULV and GASG urge the University administration to re-engage in good faith collaborations with student leaders and campus stakeholders to ensure that the transition is planned thoughtfully, communicated clearly, and mindful of its impact on students’ academic and personal responsibilities.
ASULV and GASG call upon the University administration to revisit the current plan and work in partnership with students and stakeholders to develop a more inclusive and well-informed path forward.
