The baseball and softball teams both saw their seasons end last weekend in their respective Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference postseason tournaments.
For baseball, the Leopards got off to an impressive start with a 2-1 win over Chapman on May 6 and a 6-4 win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on May 7. However, they lost a heartbreaker to Pomona-Pitzer, 6-5, on May 8, on an eighth inning homerun by Sagehen sophomore right fielder Kai Gonzaga. This set up a Saturday rematch with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, which the Leopards lost, 15-2.
Meanwhile, the softball team got swept out of the tournament with losses to Chapman on May 8, 6-1, and Whittier on Saturday, 9-7.
The baseball team ended in fifth place in SCIAC, with a 24-19-1 overall record and 14-10 in conference.
Both Nathan Perry, senior catcher, and Aidan Salcedo, senior second baseman, ended their ULV baseball careers with All-SCIAC selections. Perry was named to First Team and Salcedo to Second Team.
In softball, La Verne finished third in SCIAC with a 17-25 overall record and 11-10 in conference. The tournament appearance was the team’s first since 2022.
