Tri-City Mental Health and the Lewis Center hosted a “Paint and Sip” activity on May 14 complete with watercolors non-alcoholic drink options.

About 15 students attended the event.
May is mental health awareness month, and Pomona-based Tri-City offers a variety of services including mobile crisis care and a 24/7 helpline for those experiencing a mental health crisis.
“We had collaborated before, and so we decided it would be a perfect fit to celebrate mental health (awareness month) especially before finals week,” said Allison Krich, associate director at Randall Lewis Center for Well-Being and Research.
The structure hour-long event had students painting affirmations for the first 30 minutes and sunsets for the second.
“Students (do well) when they have activities to take their minds off of assignments,” Krich said.
“I hope events like this continue to happen,” said Jamyah Mason, freshman biology major. “I get overwhelmed … Stuff like this really calms me down and helps me not dissociate.”
Ariana Parra, junior art major, also was glad she attended.
“I love doing stuff that involves art,” Parra said. “Especially when it gets to reassure me about who I think I am… There are times that are going to be stressful (and) I will have that to look at.”
“The event was calm,” Vivian Castaneda, junior biology major, said. “It was just the sound of everyone painting and a calming sounds of nature around us.”
