The student engagement office hosted a fall Involvement Fair Wednesday in the Abraham Campus Center.
The event showcased various on-campus clubs, activities and jobs for students. Among participants were the Black Student Union, Latino Student Forum, Mental Health clubs and the housing office.
About 70 students in all attended the midday event.
They got a small card upon entry which they could use to get free Mexican food and desserts in Sneaky Park after exploring the fair.
The University choral music program hosted one table, where sophomore education major Leah Kuo let students stopping by know about this program’s offerings.
“This year we’re having a new choir, and we’re here hoping that people want to join to create some new memories …performances for live concerts,” Kuo said.
At the Mental Health club’s table, senior kinesiology major Zayda Vera talked about the club’s vital purpose.
“We’re here because we help students with improving dreams, equity, access and success,” Vera said. “We like to start the semester with a vision board to help us all visualize how we want to do it.”
“We focus on undocumented, documented and mixed size families here on campus,” Vera added.
At the Black Student Union table, senior political science major Destiny Tenor let visitors know about club participation, scholarships and fun club events.
“Our main thing is just making sure that Black students have a community on campus and feel like they have somewhere to go,” Tenor said, adding that the Sisters of Essence club is another opportunity for Black students.
The fair booths spanned all three floors of the Campus Center.
Freshman biology major Nicole Beltran said she enjoyed the event. It was the first she’d attended here.
“I wanted to get an idea of the community at La Verne,” Beltran said. “I’m trying to get a feel of clubs I would want to join.”
