The University of La Verne College Panhellenic Association held “Blooming with Sisterhood” Sept. 2 in the Quay Davis Executive Boardroom, bringing in around 25 students hoping to learn more about the organization.
The session was led by Rho Chi members, who are current sorority members who temporarily leave their sorority to help with the recruitment process by offering their unbiased opinions.
“Blooming with Sisterhood” is one of the many events to help different sororities get to know students interested in joining later on. Rho Chi members also serve as recruitment counselors throughout the recruitment weekend.
Approximately 50 women are assigned to each Rho Chi member, who answer questions and help out throughout the recruitment process.
Events like “Blooming with Sisterhood” are designed to make potential sorority members feel more comfortable with the process before recruitment begins.
“They kind of get the feeling of what a sisterhood is really about before they go to their forever home,” said Carinna Ramirez, College Panhellenic Association recruitment assistant chair.
The event also allowed attendees to connect with current sorority members outside of the classroom.
“I hope students learn the purpose of why we are a sorority,” Rebekka Padilla, CPH Sigma Rho Chi, said.
“I feel like we get a certain name and we raise money to give back to certain communities and our philanthropies that we are in.”
Along with learning more about sorority life, attendees participated in a flower bouquet activity.
The event featured a display of flowers that students could choose from to create their own bouquets.
Organizers used the activity as another way for students to connect through a shared interest.
“I’m also just so excited to get to know everyone, and I love flowers too,” Kymberlee Torres, a freshman kinesiology major and event attendee, said.
For some attendees, the Rho Chi members have also helped make the recruitment process feel less intimidating and have given them more confidence to participate.
“They have helped me make the simplest decisions here, and if I didn’t want to come to these events, they helped me have confidence in myself to come,” Jaylene Sandoval, sophomore criminology major and event attendee, said.
Toward the end of the event, participants had the opportunity to participate in a Kahoot quiz after making their bouquets. The game was designed to spark questions about the recruitment process.
For commuter students, events like “Blooming with Sisterhood” can also provide an opportunity to meet people and build connections outside of the classroom. Sandoval said the events have helped her meet other students and feel more connected to campus.
“Just connecting with the girls, I’ve gotten to know so many people, especially since I am a commuter,” Sandoval said.
As recruitment approaches, events such as “Blooming with Sisterhood” allow students to learn more about sorority life while meeting potential friends and becoming more comfortable with the recruitment process.
The next event held by CPH will be “Pearls, Charms, and Panhellenic Connections.”
It’s a night for bracelet making, meeting new people, and getting to know the Panhellenic community. This event will also be held in the Quay Davis Executive Boardroom.
The College Panhellenic Association sorority recruitment weekend starts Friday and runs through Sunday.
