The International Student Program hosted a mixer on Sept. 10 in the Ludwick Center.
At the event, there were pastries for students, including conchas and donuts.
There was also R&B music playing in the background with students coming and going in.
Roughly 15 students attended.
Brooklyn Clark, a junior economics major who works for the multicultural services center, said they are hoping to have more such events.
“It’s about having the opportunity to talk to people that are from different places, different walks of life, stuff like that,” Clark said.
The event also featured a watercolor painting activity.
Valeria Chavarria, a senior psychology major who works for the international services office said that this event connected her back to her experience during college.

“It’s just nice seeing a new generation of students come to a university that lets them have time away from their classes to socialize,” Chavarria said.
Organizers also asked the people who were in attendance if there were any ideas that they think would help connect students through their shared interest.
Sok Im Lov, senior biology major, said that since it’s her last year at La Verne, she’s really trying to take advantage of going to events.
“I get to see a diverse group of people and people that have the same background as me at social events like this,” Lov.
Miku Kawanishi is pursuing a master’s in accounting at La Verne. She said these events make her anxiety go away.
“Events like this… allow me to actually rest because I’m basically busy and stressed out most of all the week,” she said.
