An Italian sandwich spot called Si Roma La Verne opened last month at 1253 Foothill Blvd.

The shop has light blue walls, tile floors, and a sandwich bar with a glass barrier so customers can watch their meals being prepped.

Most of the sandwiches contain some sort of deli meat with fresh cheese, homemade sauces and a vegetable component on crispy bread.

Many feature homemade pesto sauce, which is somewhat unique in its subtle flavor – unlike the overpowering taste of some pestos.

Any sandwich can be made into a combo with a beverage and chips for an additional $2.

Sandwich prices range from $6 for small grab-and-go to $18 for meal-sized loaded sandwiches.

Si Roma employee Joseph Martinez shared what he likes best during a recent visit.

“My favorite sandwich is the Va Bene…Can’t go wrong with the pepperoni and salami,” Martinez said.

The restaurant has tables by the sandwich bar for eating in, and a to-go option.

The original Si Roma is in Glendale.

In La Verne, locals are just beginning to discover the new shop.

The sandwich shop was nearly empty on Sunday.

“I just found this place off of Google,” said Cameron Woolman of La Verne, who happened in on Sunday.

Woolman said he found Si Roma while looking for something new.

“I just went to Spain recently, so I’ve been into trying different sandwiches,” Woolman said.

Another customer commented that he liked the herby taste of the bread, which has a crisp crust and soft middle.

Will Brown, a Si Roma employee, said the shop gets busy after school on Fridays.

“Our peak time is around 12:00 p.m.,” Brown said.

Si Roma La Verne is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the weekdays, and from 11 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the weekends.
