The RailGiants Train Museum at the Fairplex in Pomona has a variety of trains and other equipment from railroad history.

Visitors can walk around the trains and look at the various parts up close.

The oldest train in the museum is 100 years old. In total, there are about 10 trains on display, and they come from different time periods telling a story of how things have changed over the past century.

Rob Shatsnider of Arcadia has been volunteering at the museum for 22 years. He first became involved after going to the Los Angeles County Fair with his family.

His son, Jon, suggested that they join the museum, not knowing that he would fall in love with the place and stay for many years.

“I enjoy preserving history,” Jon Shatsnider said.

Jon Shatsnider said the trains at the museum are the last example of their type.

Jon Shatsnider also volunteers at the museum.

“My favorite part … is that we are actively restoring the equipment,” Jon Shatsnider said.

Jon Shatsnider hopes visitors, mainly kids, leave the museum more curious and wanting to learn more about train history.

“We hope that every visitor leaves with an interest in learning more about the community,” Jon Shatsnider said.

Chelsea Williams, a recent RailGiants visitor, said she enjoyed being able to climb onto some of the trains and pull the horn.

“I learned how to identify trains … my favorite part of visiting this museum today,” Williams said.

Admission to the RailGiants museum is free. For more information, visit railgiants.org.
