The Leopards participated in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Swim Championship at the East Los Angeles College swim stadium Saturday afternoon for the fourth and final day.

This was the last event of the swim and dive season, bringing their season to a close.

The men’s 400-yard medley B-team placed 16th overall, displaying their talent in the water.

Swimming the opening leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay in 21.77 seconds, junior sprint and free swimmer Cody Lehotsky started the day off strong. With speeds of 47.18 and 1:45.63 in the 400-yard and 800-yard freestyle relay and times of 22.08 and 47.95 in the 500-yard and 100-yard free, respectively, Lehotsky set new personal records.

Out of 132 swims, the squad set 122 personal records in total. The team competed in 15 relays, all of which were the fastest of the year.

Senior breaststroke, sprint, and free swimmer Emma Vu set a lifelong career high in her final championship matches with speeds of 1:14.9 and 2:47.47 in the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke.

Senior diver Kira Degelsmith finished her four-year diving career with a personal top finish of 244.16 for 16th place on three-meters and a 280.0 on one-meter.

The future is promising for the La Verne Leopards because 70% of the team are freshmen. The only graduating seniors are Vu, Degelsmith and Brandon Pham.
