As Halloween season drew to a close, the Campus Activity Board wrapped up the festivities with a grand finale, “Hallowfest,” Monday night on Citrus Lawn.
Over 100 enthusiastic students gathered to enjoy the final moments of Halloween.
Under the starry night, students paraded their creative and haunting Halloween costumes. The night was a bewitching tapestry of experiences, featuring a spine-tingling “terror truck” experience, delectable vegan donuts from The Dough of Life, a seemingly endless candy bar, a painting station that offered canvases or little pumpkins to paint, a spooky Halloween trivia game, and a whimsical 360-degree photo booth to capturing enchanting memories.
“I think it’s such an amazing way to end Halloween month, especially since not a lot of students get to go home and are stuck here on campus,” Teresa Nguyen, freshman political science major, said.
Nguyen was dressed as diet coke can, her DIY costume was a silver sparkly dress with the printed out Diet Coke logo stuck to the dress. Nguyen said she appreciated the creativity and individuality of her classmates’ costumes.
The live DJ added to the ambiance, with a variety of musical genres, from haunting tunes to hip hop and lively beats that heightened the Halloween spirit.
“The ambiance tonight feels really lively,” said Megan Romo, graduate student in education.
Romo said she liked the Halloween trivia game, for which she won a ghost lamp.
The event also featured a costume contest with winners for “best-dressed,” “most imaginative,” and “most spine-chilling.”
Freshman kinesiology major Michael Nystrom was pleasantly surprised to win an award for his costume, Chad Danford from “High School Musical.”
“I wasn’t expecting to win first place,” Nystrom said. He had initially planned on dressing up as Teen Titans with his friends but after several people told him he looked like Chad Danford, he decided to go for that as his Halloween costume.
“My favorite thing about hosting the event tonight was the Halloween trivia,” said Monica Esparza, CAB member and child development major. “I really liked the prizes we selected for Halloween trivia (including) a ghost lamp, ghost lego (and) a box of spooky ‘squishmallows’.”
Esparza said this year’s Hallowfest was different from last year’s because it was more interactive. She wanted to make sure students had a reason to stay longer at the event.
