With over 400 athletes across 18 teams, it is easy to take La Verne’s athletic programs for granted. But as with many great things, our sports came from very humble beginnings.
For the La Verne men’s golf team, this season has been nothing short of spectacular.
The La Verne men’s golf team finished their season with a bang last weekend, securing the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship.
The women’s golf team qualified for the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic championship, a three-day tournament April 18-20 held at Brookside Country Club in Pasadena.
The University of La Verne inducted eight former student-athletes, as well as the entire 1981 women’s volleyball national championship team, into the Athletics Hall of Fame at a ceremony Saturday at Sheraton Fairplex Hotel and Conference Center.
The men’s golf team finished third, behind Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Redlands at the 2019 West Cup golf tournament held at the Sierra La Verne Country Club on Monday and Tuesday.
The La Verne men’s golf team won the Poet Challenge by a close margin of one point under Chapman 312-313. Sophomore Pitiluk Phanomchai, who was recently nominated Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week, took first place helping to ensure the win for the Leopards after prevailing through the rain last week.
After a hard fight, the women’s golf team came up short as they opened up for the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play at Los Serranos Country Club.
The men’s golf team wrapped up its winter season with a fifth-place finish at the Firestorm Invitational in Arizona on Nov. 13.
The men’s golf team ended its season with multiple strong performances, earning a trip to the NCAA Division III Championships May 15-18 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
