A former University of La Verne student has been charged for making racially motivated threats and for posing as a victim of these threats, and an alleged racially motivated hate crime during spring semester 2019, La Verne police announced during a Monday press conference.
At around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, campus safety detained an unnamed male wandering around the Athletic Pavilion. The suspect, who has been spotted on campus in the past, was later found by Campus Safety hiding in a second floor restroom.

La Verne police are still investigating a midday shooting Wednesday that left one victim in stable condition with wounds to his upper and lower torso. At around 1 p.m., residents on First and A streets reported the sounds of gunfire they described as a flurry of about 10 shots.
Elijah Thomas Rouse of La Verne and Shaun Cardarelli of San Gabriel have been charged with the murder of West Covina firefighter John Brian Mananghaya Aguila of West Covina, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
