The La Verne baseball team won both games of the doubleheader against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps with eighth inning comebacks Saturday at Ben Hines Field to help head coach Scott Winterburn reach a milestone.
Sophomore shortstop Anthony Salcedo’s extra inning heroics helped the Leopards open their conference schedule with a bang March 4. His 11th inning single drove in sophomore pinch runner Garrett Halbeisen for a 5-4 walk-off win over the Redlands Bulldogs at Ben Hines Field.
The baseball team took two games from the visiting Centenary Gentlemen from Louisiana this week, including a close 9-7 win Sunday evening and a come-from-behind 12-8 victory Wednesday. The Leopards improved to 5-1-1 on the season as they await the opening of Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.
After dropping the first game of their series in Redlands on Friday, the Leopards sent their seniors off triumphantly by winning both games of the doubleheader on Senior Night on Saturday. It was the first series win for La Verne on the year and put their final record at 4-5 for the pandemic-shortened 2021 season.
Documentary filmmaker Elke Teichmann sat down with Hope Caton, one of the writers for the 1999 game “Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation,” and handed her a sheet with nine different designs of the game’s protagonist, Lara Croft. After a quick look, Caton spotted and pointed to the fourth variation.
