A University of La Verne professor has combined fast-paced flamenco strums with the soothing plucking of classical guitar and created life, energy and community through a Facebook live stream.
Close to five decades after being taught the basics of guitar by Jessica Alba’s grandfather, Michael Ryan brought the spirit of acoustic Spanish music to the University of La Verne for the Sundays at the Morgan concert series.
The pouring rain did not shy away the crowd of adults and students from listening to the smooth sounds from “A Night in Rio,” a concert presented by Michael Ryan and Friends in Morgan Auditorium.
The final event for the dedication of Morgan Auditorium took place on Saturday and featured Ann and Steve Morgan opening the concert with gratitude speeches and the audience giving them a standing ovation.
Michael Ryan and Friends enchanted the audience in the packed Morgan Auditorium on Saturday with the concert “Gypsy Passion.” It was full of great Spanish music and flamenco dancers making the experience exhilarating.
While most of the school cheered on the football team at the Homecoming game, students, faculty, staff and alumni gathered to perform and view excerpts of their most recent work.
