The city of La Verne is considering giving up its locally controlled fire department and instead contracting with Los Angeles County Fire Department for the same service instead as a way of addressing staffing shortages and other problems that have impeded the La Verne Fire Department recently.
The La Verne Police Department and the FBI are continuing to investigate an apparent hate crime involving an online threat and arson that occurred on campus last Thursday and Friday, prompting the cancellation of classes.
After the city council rejected previous proposals to consider contracting with the Los Angeles County Fire Department, Councilman Muir Davis put forward a vote for a study – this time, one that would come at no cost to the city.
