With over 400 athletes across 18 teams, it is easy to take La Verne’s athletic programs for granted. But as with many great things, our sports came from very humble beginnings.
It is not often that a team is consistent year after year in winning championships. When a team is so good for so long, the word ‘dynasty’ comes to mind. The only thing harder than winning a championship is maintaining that level of consistency that got you there in the first place, season after season.
The Leopards won their third straight Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title this year, finishing up the season with a record of 28-16 and falling short of nationals.
The La Verne softball team capitalized on walks and timely hits to sweep the Chapman Panthers Saturday at Campus West.
The Leopards won 7-2 in game one and 4-3 in game two.
The team is now 17-11 overall and 12-4 in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, putting them in second place.
The softball team split a doubleheader against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Saturday at Campus West, winning the first game, 5-3, and dropping the second, 3-0, in its Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener.
