James Garcia, assistant professor of psychology, discusses how people in the LGBT community are susceptible to medical conditions other than HIV April 12 in the Hanawalt House. Garcia, along with another panelist, Megan Rush, program coordinator at University of California Riverside’s LGBT Resource Center, were brought in by the Office of Diversity and Inclusivity to present a variety of topics at the Gaypril Health Education Panel. Topics included mental health, physical health, safe sex practices, communicating in a relationship, available resources and stepping outside of heterosexual norms in relationships.

Panelists Jessica Valenzuela and Andrés López-Delgado answer questions addressing birthright citizenship and how citizenship is protected by the law during the Office of Diversity and Inclusivity’s Diversity Town Hall Monday. Valenzuela works as a Department of Justice accredited representative at the Immigration Center for Women and Children in downtown Los Angeles where she helps survivors of domestic violence with their visa and citizenship applications. López-Delgado is a third-year student at Yale Law School where he works on issues of fair housing law and community development law. Valenzuela stressed the importance of the contribution of citizens by voting to make an impact rather than being silent.
