It has been more than six years since a track and field event has taken place on the La Verne campus. On Saturday, La Verne’s track and field team placed first in 14 events overall, hosting its first home meet since 2006 on the revamped Ortmayer Stadium.
More than 100 spectators rushed to the final straightaway, making sure they witnessed senior Lenore Moreno finish first for La Verne at the 2012 SCIAC Cross Country Championships at Prado Park in Chino Saturday.
The $4 million project of refurbishing Ortmayer Stadium has been long awaited. For onlookers now it looks like a huge dirt field – but soon that dirt field will become home to all of La Verne’s field sports.
It was a fruitful weekend for the men’s and women’s track and field teams as they won three of four total competitions at Occidental on Saturday.
