The Leopards fell short 3-1 in a point-for-point match against the Occidental Tigers Tuesday. The team played hard and had its moments, but broke under pressure resulting in a Tigers victory of 25-21, 21-25, 25-21 and 25-19.
The volleyball team had a very successful weekend at the Leopard Invitational, winning all four of their matches to bring their overall record to 14-7.
As of Tuesday, the Leopard volleyball team holds a current stance of 4-2 in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and last Saturday they defeated the Redlands Bulldogs in a hard-hitting three-set sweep, 25-23, 25-16 and 25-17.
The volleyball team high-fived and enjoyed themselves on their way to another win with a triumph over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday at Ted Ducey Gymnasium on the Claremont McKenna College campus.
After losing to Cal Lutheran in the SCIAC championship tournament at the end of 2010, the athletics department thought that a coaching change would give the women’s volleyball team that extra push it needed to get back to the top of the conference.
It was a rare sight Friday night as the women’s volleyball team lost in straight sets to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. It was the Leopards’ first loss to the Athenas in more than 10 years.
