The La Verne baseball team's Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship season looked just about over when they lost Saturday at Ben Hines Field, 16-8, to the Chapman Panthers. However on Monday, the Leopards were offered a bid to play in the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship Tournament in Birmingham, Alabama, keeping their tremendous season alive for at least another two games.
The first place Leopards began the series against the second place Stags at Ben Hines Field on May 5, winning 9-4 and celebrating eight seniors on their senior day.
The La Verne baseball team faced the Endicott College Gulls in a doubleheader Saturday, winning the first game, 10-5, but dropping the ball in game two, losing 11-0 at Ben Hines Field.
The baseball team won 17-5 in a seven inning mercy rule after pitching settled in against rival Whittier on April 15 at Ben Hines Field. The win opened an explosive three game sweep of the Poets.
