Within the past couple weeks several announcements have been made about the progress of NASA and their plans for space exploration.

Captain Robert Gibson spoke at the Chino Airport Planes of Fame Museum Friday about his experiences with NASA, his interactions with the Russians aboard the space station Mir and about life aboard the space vessel.

Particularly, it signifies the U.S. government’s spending on space voyages during the late ‘70s and ‘80s.

It won't put food into hungry mouths right away, and it will not help balance a national budget that has grown faster than a debutante's allowance, but the space shuttle Columbia is worth every penny of the $8.8 billion it has cost.

In an effort to provide a more economic means of exploring space by using a reusable spacecraft, the Space Shuttle Columbia was built and launched.
