The spring season for University of La Verne athletics is still up in the air, though Athletic Director Scott Winterburn is hoping Leopards can get back onto the field before the end of the academic year.

The women’s basketball team overcame a huge early deficit, scoring 35 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to beat the Whittier Poets, 78-72, Wednesday at the Frantz Athletic Court in the Leopards’ Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener.
The men’s swimming team finished just barely ahead of Whitter, 97-96, but the women weren’t able to push past the Poets, losing 116-102 on Saturday.

The men’s water polo team’s win streak was short-lived, as they took two home losses this week, falling to Cal Lutheran 11-7 on Saturday and to Whittier 18-8 on Wednesday.
The women’s water polo team was on the move this week, taking down Redlands at the La Verne Aquatic Center Saturday, 8-4, and Whittier on the road Wednesday, 10-8, to win five straight and move into a third place tie in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Coming off of a difficult loss to Redlands in their season opener, the men’s and women’s swim teams bounced back in their home opener against Whittier at the La Verne Aquatic Center Nov. 17.
