Several impressive individual performances, including two school records, led the University of La Verne men's and women's swim teams through their first taste of Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) competition at Saturday's Pomona-Pitzer Invitational.

Swim meets are commonly decided by the team that performs better in the two diving events. The University of La Verne swim teams gave themselves a chance to contend for the conference championships by continuing a season-long trend of surprising success.

The smell of chlorine in the air. The sun glistening off the new pool. The sweetness of setting records. It almost makes one want to get their feet wet. These are all of what the University La Verne men's and women's swimming and diving teams experienced in last Saturday's meet at Cal State Northridge.

The City of La Verne, Bonita Unified School District, the University of La Verne and members of the community gathered on Jan. 24 for the dedication of the new City of La Verne Aquatics Center.

With the onset of the new academic and athletic year, most of the coaches at the University of La Verne are getting ready for the upcoming competition. However, the new men's and women's swimming and water polo coaches will spend this year recruiting for the 1998-99 season.
