With the reconstruction of Wilson Library scheduled to conclude in January 1996, plans to renovate Sneaky Park, on the corner of Third and “C” Streets, have been drafted by the University and approved by the city.
Brian Worley, director of facilities management, took the plans to the city design committee at the beginning of February.
The most noticeable addition to the park will be a small amphitheater which will hold 30 to 40 people.
“The idea is that it can be used for small classes or presentations,” said Worley.
The park area will be relandscaped, and paved street crossings will be added across the park and “C” Street. The existing barbeque will also be reconditioned and tables and chairs will be added to the area.
The city approved the plans with a few minor adjustments such as including a certain type of tree in the landscaping and making walkways out of pavement or cobblestone, not stamped concrete as originally planned.
“The landscape architect is working right now on completing a bid set of plans,” said Worley.
Bid plans are plans that are handed out to the different contractors that want to complete the job.
Work on the project starts this summer and should take about three months to complete.
The area will contain a lot of flatwork, and completion of this could be delayed due to construction traffic for the library.
According to Worley, the project will cost approximately $80,000 to $100,000, all of which is coming out of the $7 million budget for the new library.
