In an address to the University of La Verne community at the Town Meeting in October, President Stephen Morgan presented various options for University expansion.
The Town Meeting was an opportunity to bring the ULV community together to discuss important issues effecting the University. The main issues discussed at the meeting were the State of the University Report, enrollment, finances, the endowment and upcoming challenges and concerns, which included space needs for the future.
Because of a lack of space on campus in what Dr. Morgan called a “landlocked” situation, the option of moving the baseball field and possibly other athletic fields was discussed. This idea was proposed in an effort to provide more room for classrooms and offices, which, he said, is the long-term need on campus, with the hope for higher enrollment by the year 2000.
The University of La Verne hopes to lease land south of Arrow Highway, at Wheeler Avenue, which is currently owned by Metropolitan Water District, for the facilities.
Though this land has been considered, Morgan said that “nothing is definite.” If this transition is to take place, he projects it happening in the next five years.
A more timely issue regarding facilities is the space available in the temporary library when the new building opens in the beginning of the spring semester. A task force composed of representatives of the administration and faculty, along with Dr. Morgan, is exploring options of what to do with this facility. There are plans to renovate the building for possible classrooms or offices.
