Rummage sale proceeds benefit foundation

Campus Activities Board hosted a campus-wide rummage sale on Saturday to raise money for the Dream Foundation and help residents sell their unwanted goods.

Each booth paid $15 for their space, which was donated to the Dream Foundation. Any money the booths made from selling their goods was theirs to keep.

The Dream Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to making dreams come true for adults battling life-threatening illnesses.

“I had to choose one major philanthropy to focus on for this event, which is why I chose the Dream Foundation,” CAB Philanthropy Chairwoman Nicole Wood said. “I wanted to bring awareness of this non-profit that not many people have heard of.”

The rummage sale ran from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. In that time about 20 people browsed the different booths and donated to the Dream Foundation.

Many booths offered clothes and blankets. The ones that stood out sold toys, bikes, furniture, jewelry and more.

One booth even had a jump castle for children. There was a $1 fee to jump in the castle, from which the proceeds were donated to the Dream Foundation.

“I was drawn because it was a student event and a fundraiser,” Dede Aguayo, associate director of corporate education, said.

Aguayo sold a variety of jewelry from China at her booth. Aguayo said she decided to sell the jewelry because her coworkers commented positively on it.

“Hopefully next year we will try do it more than once,” CAB Concert Chairman Mike Lindsey said. “We hope to try and make it bigger by getting more involvement from the students and the surrounding community and grow from there.”

The rummage sale raised $250 for the Dream Foundation.
