Leopards split with CMS, Chapman

The La Verne women’s soccer team split two Southern California Inter­collegiate Athletic Confer­ence games this week, losing 1-0 to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Saturday and topping Chapman, 2-0, Wednesday.

The Leopards played a defensive match against the Athenas Saturday but a goal in the last 90 seconds led to their demise.

Freshman goalkeeper Jasmine Valadez made seven saves, but was unable to get a hand on a shot off a corner kick.

CMS senior forward Darrah Shields took the corner, crossing the ball to senior midfielder Kelsey Heflin, who found freshman forward Remi Edwards in the box.

The Athenas outshot the Leopards in both halves, totaling eight shots on goal while the Leopards only totaled two.

La Verne faced Chapman Wednesday and won behind two second-half goals by sophomore forward Jessica Hernandez.

The Leopards are 6-7-2 overall and 4-6-1 in SCIAC.
