The Career Development Center (CDC) will have its annual internship luncheon next Wednesday, Nov. 10, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the West Dining Room.
“The CDC puts an internship luncheon each year to give undergraduates a chance to learn about internships and network with people currently participating in internships and employers that offer internships. It is a great way to begin the process to look for internships,” said Laura Venturini, coordinator of career placement at the University of La Verne.
At some point undergraduate students, depending on their major, will be required to participate at an internship during their years at the University. The luncheon helps those students who are interested in looking for an internship.
The internship luncheon will consist of two panels. The panel will let the students know what employers are looking for when hiring employees, the role of internships for employees and the importance and value of internship opportunities for students.
The second panel consists of students who have participated in internships and how they found them, their likes and dislikes and what they learned from their experiences.
Some of the people scheduled to speak will be a representative from Fox Broadcasting and Inroads, respectively.
Senior Araceli Esparza will be speaking about her internship with the San Gabriel Valley Tribune and alumnus David Dang will talk about his internship at Disney and his current job at Paramount Studios. Senior Maria Sandoval will also talk about her internship at Buena Vista High School in Chino. The CDC is in the process of lining up other speakers.
“I think that the internship luncheon is beneficial because it helps deal with internships. I did not go last year. I want to put everyone’s mind at ease, share positive experiences, inform them about internships and how to go about it. They should find a place they like,” said Sandoval.
Terrie Lopez, career development and placement director said, “I hope that the students have a better understanding, be able to network, learn information about internships, understand the importance of internships, think about their careers and clarify their career goals,”
After the panels give their presentations, participants will have lunch. Students will talk to employers and ask questions and get information bout internship opportunities.
Students who are interested need to register by today. A $5 fee is to be paid. The dress code is business attire.
“I think that students who participate will gain the values of internships and it will be beneficial to them,” Lopez said.
