Four candidates vying for the University’s chief of Human Resources position came to the campus to interview before faculty and students this week. The four finalists were chosen among 65 applicants.
The interviews, which were held daily, began Tuesday. Each applicant went before a committee, student and faculty observers, who also have access to the applicants’ resumes now on reserve at the Wilson Library.
The first to go before the committee on Tuesday was Raymond Quan, hoping to make the transition from Kern Community College District in Bakersfield where he has worked as the human resources director for three years. Quan has also worked as director of human resources at Montana State University and at the National Childhood Cancer Foundation. Adding to his work experience, Quan also served as human resource manager at the Regional Center in Los Angeles, DuCharme McMillen and Associates, Inc. and at Western Federal Savings where he was also appointed as vice president, just to name a few. Holding a bachelors in English from Biola College, as well as an masters in English and masters of business administration from California State Dominguez Hills, Quan seems to be a tough competitor.
Roberta Dellhime had her interview on Wednesday in the President’s Dining Room. Dellhime holds a master of public administration from the University of Southern California, which is where she also obtained her bachelor of arts in psychology and communication. She hopes to join ULV after working as human resource director for nine years at the University of Redlands. Before working at the University of Redlands she was assistant personnel officer at San Bernardino County where she held her position for five years.
Thursday was Frank Montalvo’s day to go before the committee. Montalvo holds degrees from various colleges; a B.A. in sociology from California State Dominguez Hills, a certificate in executive management from Peter F. Drucker Graduate Management Center, Claremont, and a masters in management from Claremont Graduate University. He has also served at a large range of institutions such as, assistant vice president of human resources at Loyola Marymount University where he also served as a part-time lecturer. He was also director of human resources at the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Los Angeles, director of human resources at Occidental College, and a personnel manager-wage and salary administrator at Stanford University Hospital.
Friday, which marked the end of the interviewing process, was Lon Orey’s day. He has held jobs at Lehman Associates, Bellevue, Wash., where he was a senior associate, was the assistant vice chancellor for human resources at the University of California, Irvine, human resource director at the University of California San Diego Medical Center and director of personnel at Saint Cabrini Hospital in Seattle, Wash. He holds a bachelors in psychology from the University of Washington, as well as a masters in psychology from Western Washington University in Bellingham, Wash.
The committee will review all resumes and notes in hope to make a quick decision within a couple of weeks.
