Don’t lose your balance

One of the core values of the University of La Verne is civic and community engagement, but when it comes to on-campus living, these values are not exactly front-and-center – at least not on the weekends.  

The first several weeks of the academic year is often referred to as the Red Zone, a period of time between move-in day and Thanksgiving break when college students – first year students and women in particular –  are most likely to experience sexual assault.

Raised in a digital-first world, Generation Z is coming of age amid such social and global challenges as climate change, systemic racism, and political polarization. These ongoing challenges have shaped many of the generation’s core values, which include, in general, a commitment to social justice causes such as racial equality, LGBTQ+ rights and environmental sustainability. 

In a world where people so freely give their hearts—pouring love, time, and energy into someone they believe in—few things are more soul-crushing than hearing, “I think we need to break up.”
