After four straight wins at the beginning of the year the University of La Verne’s golf team hit its low point.
The SCIAC championships were the Leos last match of the season on May 1.
Senior Greg Maher finished in the top spot for the Leos with scores of 76 and 77 in the two rounds of the championship match.
“I had a poor season, but I started to play well towards the end,” said Maher.
Senior Ryan Bazela shot a 77 and an 83 to finish in second place for the Leos. Senior Victor Bugni shot a 77 and 83, Jason Willman shot 79 and 81, sophomore Ryan Milligan shot 90 and 83 and Gabe Sanchez shot a 86 and 90.
This year marks the first year that Head Coach Rex Huigens has been able to be an exclusive golf coach.
“It was nice to have him [Huigens] around all the time,” said Maher.
After a disappointing team finish, two Leos were named to the all- SCIAC golf teams. Bazela was named to the first team and Bugni was named to the second team.
