Following the best voter turnout the University of La Verne has seen in years, Associated Student Federation Forum President Travis Berry retained his position for another term this week.
And while Berry will serve again for the 2004-2005 academic year, this week’s election marked the first contest for the Forum presidency in three years. Each of the previous two elections had only one candidate.
“I am extremely happy to have been chosen for reelection,” Berry said. “Apparently the students are confident in my work as president, and I will continue to work hard for them.”
Berry added that the competition was good for him.
Shortly after hearing the result, Wendy Schwartz, the opposing candidate for presidency, called Berry in his office to congratulate him.
Dana McJunkin was elected for the vice president position, and Sarah Morphis was elected into the public relations seat.
Derek Chacon, who ran uncontested in this election, will take the position of secretary.
The votes were certified by Dean of Student Affairs Loretta Rahmani and Associate Dean of Student Affairs Ruby Montaño-Cordova.
Noting that the race has been one of reflection, Berry said he was grateful for the opportunity to run against Schwartz.
Berry’s agenda includes taking student concerns about tuition increases and financial aid decreases to the Board of Trustees and administration.
He said the Forum will focus on improving communication and putting on programs the students want.
“Students need to know that I will continue to leave the doors of my office open,” Berry said.
