‘Tuesdays’ opens eyes

Tuesday nights should no longer be spent wandering aimlessly from yogurt stations to movie theaters for ULV students.

As a new spin-off of last year’s “Tuesdays at the Basement,” Dailey Theater presents “Tuesdays at the Cabaret.”

Talent and a love of the arts combine to make a wonderful atmosphere of performances that take place every other Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the University’s performance theater.

These programs take place when announced, and are usually a medley of talent, drama, readings and dance.

“Tuesdays” attempts to offer a night of free entertainment for those willing to appreciate the effort and talent that takes place on front and center stage.

Associate Professor of Theatre Arts Jane Dibbell believes “Tuesdays” to be a “good Tuesday night activity which can sometimes be serious, and at other times be lots of fun.”

This week, the program covered the topics HIV/AIDS and homophobia. Other diverse topics have included modern dance and poetry readings. Songs by music students have also been performed.

The broad spectrum of students that are getting involved is what excites Dibbell.

“The Cabaret Follies were terrific. The representation from the whole student body was really strong and successful.”

Jaime Bigornia, Karla Molina and Tieu-My Nguyen performed a choreographed dance routine with much success at “Tuesdays.”

“It was fun. We used some of our same routines that we had been practicing. It was nerve-wracking at first because it was a new audience, but it turned out really good,”said Bigornia.

Dibbell strongly emphasized the fact that “Tuesdays At the Cabaret” are not only for drama students. “It is open to all who want to be involved.”

The next “Tuesdays” will be Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. It will be an improv evening and an open microphone.
