Faced with the dilemma that transfer students admitted under the new general education curriculum will spend an extra semester at La Verne to graduate, an implementation subcommittee has devised a proposal allowing transfers with associate degrees from accredited California colleges to complete only core requirements.

Junior Ray Garza and senior Alex Martinez are taking it as a part of their music major requirement. Junior Julie Mayer is taking it because it sounded like fun. Dr. Reed Gratz, professor of music, is teaching it because he wanted to do more study in that area. It is Music 361, “Survey of Rock Music,” and it is being taught this semester for the first time at the University of La Verne.

Ninety-five new members of the Alpha Chi Honor Society were inducted this year in a ceremony held Tuesday night.

When senior Kari Trotter completes her requirements for graduation next fall, she will have degrees in both biology and chemistry. She is one of many double majors at the University of La Verne.

During college, students often find themselves looking for practical work experience in their chosen fields. Internships are usually the answer to gaining that needed experience and building a strong resume. The problem with internships, though, is that many do not pay students for their time, expenses and skills.

A wave of change has hit individual departments that are beginning the semester under leadership of new department chairs.
