The La Verne football team played a close game last Saturday against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps but was ultimately unable to achieve its first win of the season. Although the Leopards played well in front of an enthusiastic home crowd, the game ended with a score of 17-7.
Playing under the bright lights at Memorial Stadium in Whittier, the football team achieved something Saturday that they have not done since head coach Andy Ankeny’s arrival last season.
All of the momentum from La Verne’s Homecoming victory over Pomona-Pitzer was gone by halftime in their game against visiting Occidental last Saturday, as the Leopards went into the locker room trailing, 34-0.
