In Rocky Balboa’s first fight, all he wanted to do was prove that he could go the distance with the champ. Last year the University of La Verne football team won the SCIAC title outright for the first time in school history, proving they too could go the distance.
La Verne’s football team successfully defeated the Claremont-Mudd-Scirpps Stags last Saturday and smothered NCAA Division III passing leader, John Shipp, in a 45-22 victory.
In San Francisco there were four: Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Roger Craig and Ronnie Lott. In La Verne there are four: Ryan Campuzano, Anthony Rice, Darren MacLellan and Sean Fenison. These four set the tone early for La Verne and the rest of the team followed, not missing a beat as La Verne rolled over Azusa Pacific University last Saturday, 47-7.
With the 1994 football season approaching, the University of La Verne football team has reloaded and is ready to make another run for the conference championship.
