The University of La Verne debate team was ranked 18th out of 155 western colleges at the 1997 National Parliamentary Debate Association's National Championship Tournament in Colorado Springs, Co. March 20-23. Colorado College and Regis University co-sponsored the tournament.
Britain's national debate team will grace the University of La Verne's Founders Auditorium next Wednesday, at 4 p.m. debating the issue, "The United States is not the world's police force," with La Verne arguing the pro position. It will be the first time the ULV debate team has challenged Britain on a national level.
Making its third appearance at the World Championships, the University of La Verne’s debate team continued to leave its mark in ULV history books when it traveled to Cork, Ireland and came away with a strong finish.
The University of La Verne debate squad made a strong effort placing 10th out of 115 schools at the National Championships at Rice University in Houston, Texas, last weekend.
For the first time since the University of La Verne’s debate team changed its debating style and main focus to parliamentary debate three years ago, the team is ranked fifth in the nation and 40th in the world.
