Behind an offensive explosion, which featured dominating performances from Ricky Sullivan and Jeff Williams, the Leopards powered to their first victory of the season with a 49-44 triumph over Chapman in the Homecoming game Saturday afternoon at Ortmayer Stadium.
In a battle of winless teams trying to fight their way out of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference cellar, Whittier College used a five-play, 93-yard drive with 2:35 remaining for the winning score to hand the Leopards their seventh consecutive loss, 21-14, Saturday afternoon at Ortmayer Stadium.
In a game that was close to being cancelled due to local fires, rushing was the name of the game, as Azusa Pacific University easily handed the Leopards their sixth straight loss behind 163 yards rushing and four touchdowns from tailback Ben Buys as well as defensive domination for the 42-0 shutout in front of 3,100 fans at Cougar Stadium, Saturday night.
