Black Liquid Love Fest, a night of poetry and spoken word in celebration of African American History month was held Feb 24 at Lordsburg Coffee Roasters in La Verne.

George Washington Carver. Sojourner Truth. Malcolm X. Toni Morrison. These are a few of the African Americans who have made a difference in shaping American society. February, designated as Black History month, takes the time to reflect on a part of America's history that is usually recognized as just a blurb in history books.

While Santa is still trying to lose weight and his helpers are busy tuning up the sleigh and feeding energy bars to Donner, Blitzen and company, the Christmas spirit has already hit the University of La Verne.

"Showcase '98," co-sponsored by Afrikan-American Student Alliance (AASA) and Who Dat Productions, gathered a house full in Founder's auditorium last Friday night.

Nestled in the back of the Student Center is a bungalow decorated inside with multicultural artifacts and artwork, where Harvel Lewis, coordinator/adviser of multicultural student affairs, makes her home.
